Recently, Airbnb decided that it’s time to do a visual identity refresh to strengthen its community and lifestyle brand image. Before you make any assumption and judge its visual, let’s understand the thought process and thinking behind this new identity.
The logo (or what they call the Bélo) represents four things: people, place (location tag), upside down heart and the letter A from Airbnb, of course, which then all connects and tie into their idea of a sense of belonging. I actually quite like the idea of this logo and that it provides a more meaningful story than just an interesting visual. To learn more about Airbnb’s new identity, check out their blog.
What do you think of this logo?
Do you think it looks like a paper clip? some gender organs? or just the letter A? Whatever it connotes to you, it sure did give Airbnb a lot of exposure and media coverage.
